      此片是美国有声电影初期黑帮影片的先驱，在当年是具有重大影响力的犯罪片之一，为类型电影的经典之作，故事的简洁、紧凑和激烈被影评家认为显现出一种有声电影初期的少见优美风格。在表现手法上，导演采用投影等多种方式间接表现杀人场景，因此片中虽有大量杀人情节，但避免了赤裸裸的视觉刺激。在片中也可看出影响了后来黑帮片的因素，如街头枪战火拼场景通过快速剪接表现扩大势力范围的过程等。男主角的表演者保罗·穆尼虽还带着那个年代的一些舞台式夸张，但在表现人物心理方面已十分细腻准确，一些小动作运用得恰倒好处，些微的夸张也使得人物更生动形象。
