[about to be released from prison, Clay empties his pistol's bullets into the warden's trash can] Prison warden: I wish you had kept them. I was countin' on you gettin' in a fix and comin' right back here. Clay Lomax: I ain't gettin' in any trouble... until I find the trouble I want. Trooper: They let you out or you bust out? Clay Lomax: Ain't nobody busts out of Canon City. Trooper: Sure doesn't seem like seven years. Clay Lomax: It does to me. I done 'em. Trooper: Say I told you where you could find Sam. What would you do? Clay Lomax: Pay you and kill him. Bobby Jay: Hey, Gramps! Full quart of bourbon - new bottle. Trooper: I don't knows you're old enough. Bobby Jay: Oh, ho-ho-ho. Well, we're old enough and you're too old, Gramps. Trooper: You want glasses or just put a nipple on the bottle? Bobby Jay: People oughta be like dogs - you get too old, just shoot 'em. Alma: But who's to say who gets shot? Bobby Jay: Why me, honey. Clay Lomax: Sooner of later, it comes your turn, 'cause if you live you get older and if you live long enough you get old. Trooper: Not much of a horse. Clay Lomax: Best I could get for not much cash. Bobby Jay: Hey, you told me you could cook! Alma: You point a gun and I'll tell you I could fly and do walkin' on water and turnin' sticks into snakes. Homer Page: Seems like I seen that pony before. Clay Lomax: Could be. I got him out of your corral back there. You want to get rid of him? Homer Page: If I did, I would have left the gate open. Clay Lomax: A little scrub like him, I figure he might be worth a couple of dollars. Homer Page: He's got a sentimental value - belonged to my late wife. Clay Lomax: Well, why don't you put a sentimental price on him? Clay Lomax: You're a generous woman. Juliana: Selfish - this is female practicality. You leave her here, you'll have to come back. Clay Lomax: Cards on the table: I might keep on movin'. Juliana: I'll take that gamble. [last lines] Decky: I see you finally got a new hat. That's not a Texas hat, either. Clay Lomax: Oh? What about it? Decky: Oh, nothing. Are you my father?
