本片由6部并不连续，但彼此有联系的短篇动画组成，讲述了城市青年布鲁斯·韦恩成长为“蝙蝠侠”的过程。当然其中也免不了各种反派的出场，包括“死亡射手”、“稻草人”和“杀人鳄鱼”等等。这些反派活跃在一切坏事都可能发生的哥谭市里，视蝙蝠侠为最大的敌人。
