A film inspired by an actual event in the life of the most extraordinary movie maker of all time. Set in 1974, "Steven" an up and coming director is convinced that his new shark film will be cake to make. He finds his ideas couldn't be further from the truth, after he and a friend accidentally break the mechanical fish. Now the filmmaker is faced with the deadline of making a monster movie without a monster. Set somewhere in the 1970's, Steven has a major studio deal to direct a movie about a killer shark and is confident that his experience will be a breeze. He has completed a similar film for television where a man is chased by a monster semi truck and feels that this is basically the same "man versus monster" story. Conflicts arise after his fellow filmmaking friend George (based on George Lucas) accompanies Steven on a visit to the prop department. George becomes uneasy when Steven begins messing with the Monster's remote control. Before long Steven has accidentally destroyed his movies main prop (the mechanical shark). Chaos ensues when the giant fish sinks to the ocean floor and it looks as if the director's career has gone with it. Steven must stop the film's producers from pulling the plug and find a way to make a monster movie without his monster.
